Karnataka, India.
Welcome to a land full of diversity ranging from rich flora and fauna to modern metropolitan cities. Karnataka, a state in the southwestern region of India has been molded by some of the most powerful empires of ancient and medieval India to colonization to the strong industrial influence and finally the technological wave leading it to be the home of “The silicon Valley of India” (Bengaluru).
Like it always happens, you tend to explore the city you call home the least. Remember grass is always greener on the other side? 😉 This time when we visited, we made it a point to explore and learn more about the state we grew up in our country, India. As it turns out, we knew very little and there was much to be fascinated about!
The remnants of the mighty empires of ancient and medieval India are still prevalent today in Karnataka. The state is home to numerous UNESCO World Heritage and popular tourist sites such as Hampi, Pattadakal, Badami, Aihole, Beluru, Halebidu, to name a few.
Karnataka has the second highest number of nationally protected monuments in India.
Aside from the ancient glory, Karnataka has amazing diversity in Flora and Fauna. The Western ghats with thick forests is a hikers paradise. Did you know Karnataka has 25 wildlife sanctuaries and 5 National parks? Let’s not forget about the gushing waterfalls and beaches! Karnataka is also home to the tallest single tiered waterfall – Jog falls. We strongly recommend this fantastic movie narrated by David Attenborough which highlights the rich biodiversity of this state – Wild Karnataka!
